D&H 1 & 2

D & H 1 program is comprised of classroom and lab experiences designed to develop skills and attitudes for a safe working environment. Students learn basic and complex engine fundamentals such as, but not limited to: safety, gasoline engine fundamentals, the cooling system, lubrication system, valve mechanisms, pistons, crankshaft and connecting rod assemblies, fuel systems, standard transmissions, emissions and emission control devices, wheel alignment, and clutches. Units on hardware and measuring, hand tools and equipment, and electrical/electronic systems are also covered.

Potential Careers

  • Diesel service technician. Diesel service technicians work primarily on large commercial vehicles like semi-trucks and buses, and repair any type of diesel engine.

  • Heavy equipment diesel technician. 

  • Marine diesel technician.

  • Small engine diesel technician.

  • Fixed engine diesel technician.


A hydraulic mechanic can work in a shop, factory, or any other industrial environment. As a hydraulic mechanic, you disassemble and repair hydraulic pumps, motors, and related parts. Your responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment problems and identifying issues with hydraulic systems within larger machines.
