Art Class

Yr 1 & 2 Overview

The Early Childhood Occupations program exposes students to a wide array of career options in the early childhood field, including Early interventionist, developmental therapist, early childhood/elementary teacher, childcare provider, social worker, business manager, just to name a few. 

Students earn certifications in first aid/CPR, as well as the state recognized CECA (certified early childhood assistant). Students also earn up to 12 college credits. These credits can be used at all community colleges and most universities in Maine. We also have an articulation agreement with Northern Maine Community College. 

Yr 1

Early Childhood Occupations I acquaints students with the latest ideas and theories concerning child development from conception through the school age years. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of typical and atypical development, describe the influence of early experiences on brain development, create healthy learning environments, analyze trends that affect families and communities, explore methods of child observation, among other skills gained.

 

Students will operate 123 play group, creating lesson plans and age appropriate activities. Students will get first aid/CPR certified and earn 3 college credits

Yr 2

Early Childhood Occupations II provides students with a more in-depth study of child development. Students learn how to use formal and informal assessments to determine skills, interests, temperament, and learning styles of individual children.

 

Students also gain an understanding of NAEYC developmentally appropriate practice, and explore how young children gain social competence, mathematical and scientific knowledge, among other approaches to learning. Business management practices, curriculum design, and career opportunities are explored in this half of the program.

 

Students will operate our 123 playgroup as well as our Parent/Infant program. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a field experience internship. Students will have the opportunity to gain CECA certification and to earn an additional 9 college credits.
