Yr 1 & 2 Overview

In both HECO I and II, class work is based on the National Center for Construction Education and Research handbook.

Class and lab work will be supplemented with field trips to job sites, local gravel pits, heavy equipment dealerships, and skills development work on a lab-based simulator.

All instruction will focus on critical elements of Site Construction, Gravel Pit/Mining Safety, Blueprint Reading, Site and Road Layout, Setting Grades, Laser Levels, Soils, Safety, and Heavy Equipment Maintenance.

In both HECO I and II, juniors and seniors learn skid steer, excavator, loader, and dump truck operation and maintenance skills and will have the opportunity to pursue an ACT Work Keys National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) at the Silver level. The ACT Work Keys NCRC helps employers hire and retain a high-performance workforce. Some colleges and universities also award credit for the NCRC.
