EXPLORATORY

The 8th grade JMG Career Exploration program at SJV consists of all 8th grade students from SAD 27, SAD 33, and Madawaska School Systems attending the program for 9-weeks on a quarterly rotation during the school year. 

 

Our Pre-Tech program is specifically designed with exploration and skill building in mind.

Innovation Lab

Welcome to the Innovation Lab at SJVTC, where your ideas come to life! This is your chance to unleash your creativity and build awesome, hands-on projects. Whether you’re into 3D modeling and printing, robotics, drones, electronic circuits, or multimedia, there’s something here for everyone. You’ll even get to explore cutting-edge areas like alternative energy!

In the lab, you'll dive into cool challenges that teach you the latest 21st-century skills and the basics of STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

 

By the time you’re done, you’ll have a solid foundation to pursue a career in any STEAM-related field, setting you up for an exciting future.

Build Foundational Skills

Career Awareness and Planning

Students explore 16 different career clusters, helping them identify personal goals, interests, and skills, and develop a career or educational plan tailored to their aspirations.

 

Research and Critical Thinking

Through classroom activities, discussions, and web-based tools like O-Net and Kuder Navigator, students learn to research potential careers, analyze information, and make informed decisions about their future.

Communication and Presentation

Small group interactions and presentations help students develop communication skills, as they discuss high-growth career areas and share their expertise with classmates.

Job Application and Professional Skills: A job skills scavenger hunt and activities related to the job application process give students hands-on experience in applying for jobs and understanding what employers seek.

 

Financial Literacy: Students explore personal finance concepts, learning to create a budget, manage earnings, spending, and savings, and apply these skills to real-world scenarios.

 

Collaboration and Social Skills: The program emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, allowing students to share ideas and experiences with peers from different backgrounds, fostering a supportive and diverse learning environment.
